Engineering Services Network (ESN) Promotes Douglas R. Lopez to President

WOODBRIDGE, VA – Engineering Services Network, Inc.(ESN), a leading provider of professional engineering and IT services for military and government customers, named Douglas “Doug” R. Lopez as its new President.

As President, Lopez, 46, will be responsible for implementing IT, program management, cyber engineering and logistic solutions and services that deliver the right capabilities at the right cost to ESN’s customers in the Defense Department and federal government marketplace.

“Doug brings significant leadership, a rich military background, and a wealth of experience in engineering, IT and cyber engineering to ESN,” said Chairman and CEO Raymond F. Lopez, Jr., the founder of ESN, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business based in Woodbridge, Va. “Doug has been with the company for 20 years, working his way up from the ground level which provided him a unique understanding of the daily operations of this business. He will continue to lead the future of ESN’s growth strategy and as a service-disabled veteran, he will ensure ESN’s continued success as Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business.”

Doug Lopez’s ascent at ESN began in 1998 when he joined the company as a system analyst, supporting Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic, US Fleet. He is an expert networks manager, with a background in LAN/WAN engineering, design, support and configuration management for the U.S. Navy. His engineering and technical expertise includes shipboard systems integration, systems development and systems installations.

From there, Lopez advanced to Program Manager of several critical programs, and then served as Director of Operations before stepping into the boots of COO in 2015, and now President.

“I’m honored to take the day-to-day helm at ESN and focus on assisting our military and government customers with the most leading IT engineering solutions,” Lopez said. “As a small business leader in the Washington, DC, area since 1995, ESN and our advanced teams are always ready to provide the most cost-effective and leading-edge IT solutions to our growing list of customers. Technology and Cyber capabilities are driving the changes today at the Department of Defense, and we want to continue to be a small business leader in that arena.”

His father, Ray Lopez, is a retired Navy Commander who started the company in 1995 with one employee and a single $25,000 purchase order. The company has since grown to 125 employees based in offices from coast to coast. Doug’s brother Matt also works in ESN’s IT Department as the Web Master; his mother, Carol, is an executive administrative assistant; and Doug’s wife, Stephanie, is a program analyst.

“We’ve always wanted to be a family-owned company, whether small or large; that was never in question. That was by design,” said Doug Lopez. “To start, my father put me at the ground level, working with aircraft carriers and developing solutions for the Navy. I saw firsthand all aspects of how the Navy worked and also the military industry as a whole.”

To him, that was a natural transition from having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1989 to 1994. Lopez’s duties as a Marine included serving as a Shift Supervisor, managing the workload of a string of technicians while maintaining more than $20 million in test equipment and saving the military more than $2 million in upgrade costs on the AH-1W HUD display.

After the Marines, he joined U.S. Robotics, Inc., where he was a Quality Engineer, Quality Inspector and Production Team Leader. He was promoted to the product management team, where he helped execute the 56K modem line.

“This is a great and proud day to see the younger generation at ESN move the company forward,” said Ray Lopez, who as Chairman and CEO will focus on business development, meeting with existing and new customers, and staying active in civic organizational duties for ESN. “I have full confidence that Doug can expand the company even further and provide great value to our customers and the nation.”
